The activity of a radioactive element is measured in becquerels
The number of disintegration per second in this element is expressed in Becquerel (
Bq )
It should be noted that the activity will depend directly of the amount of radioactive
material
The measurement of the absorbed dose is done in Gray
( Gy )
The dose received by a body exposed to a radiation corresponds to the amount of
energy received by this body
The Gray (Gy) corresponds to an energy of 1 joule per kg of irradiated material
But we also measure the effect over the time :
A dose rate of 1 Gy/h will be much greater than an irradiation of a few minutes or a
few milliseconds
Measuring the biological effect is done in Sievert ( Sv ) , but most often it is expressed

The tissues and organs being more or less sensitive to radiations , the equivalent dose

This system has the advantage of being able to place all types of exposure to ionizing
radiation on the same scale of risks

The effects of the radioactivity on living organisms are not only related to the
